Balocchi | 2019-2025

This is a project about the story of an Indian girl abandoned by her grandfather in an orphanage in Kerala in 1985, when she was four years old.

I wanted to explore her determination to build her own life and to save herself.

For this project, I chose to use photographs of miniatures made by Alberto Nonnato and myself as the basis for a pictorial work, which ultimately led to an illustrated book about this dark fairy tale of redemption and rebirth.

It’s based on a true story told to me during a long interview with Bindu, the protagonist.
